Huchuy Qosqo Trek
Huchuy Qosqo, known in Quechua language as ‘Little Cusco’, is a beautiful archeological site in the Sacred Valley region of Cusco. Originally the military and administrative centre for the Incan civilization, it was home to prominent figures. Believed to have been built by the 8th king Viracocha, this site holds a special place for many local people today. Watching over important towns, such as Pisac, the fascinating construction is a focal point of Peruvian architecture. The perfect stonework is famous and the ‘Colqas’ that were used to store and preserve food are still prominent today. Huchuy Qosqo sits at around 3,650m (11,800ft) above the town of Lamay. The hike to this lesser known site is normally used as a means of acclimatization for tourists, but by no means is the route any less beautiful than others. This full day adventure will take you up steep mountain surfaces, past stunning lakes and down a part of the original Inca Trail. You may meet local farmers and alpaca, with the opportunity to practice your knowledge of the Quechua language. You will be provided with a hearty lunch by the lake before making the final stretch this ancient site which is known for being drowned in beautiful golden sunlight.- Type: Cultural, landscape, and adventure tour.
